St.John’s Church, Ranmoor Concert

‘SPECIAL EDITION’ SPRING CONCERT

Time:  Saturday 27th April 2013 – 7:30pm

Sheffield City Opera are coming to St. John’s Church, Ranmoor to entertain you with beautiful melodies, a much acclaimed chorus and fabulous soloists.

In the first half of this special concert, SCO will be joining the universal celebration of the bi-centenaries of two opera giants. The main feature will be the music of Guiseppe Verdi, the Italian Operatic idol who has kept his adoring fans streaming back to hear his music again and again. Items will include the haunting chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco and the rousing Brindisi from La Traviata.

This is not to forget the bi-centenary of the wonderful Richard Wagner and the first half will end with a small selection of his choruses, including what is probably the most well known piece of music in the Western world ‘The Bridal Chorus’ from Lohengrin.

As a contrast, in the second half, SCO will take a flight of fancy across the Atlantic to enjoy the music of more recent American composers including the ever popular Gershwin, Bernstein and Sondheim. A truly fascinating selection of musical gems.
